Oakley, Contra Costa County
Oakley sits on the south shore of the Delta, where the San Joaquin River spreads into a web of channels. At Big Break Regional Shoreline, a flooded island named for a levee failure in 1928, a visitor center and a large outdoor map explain how the Delta works. Kayakers launch there, and a paved trail follows Marsh Creek inland through the city.
